Adam Herman
Peer Recovery Coach
My name is Adam and I am a person in active and sustained recovery. What that means for me today is I am abstinent and free from all substances and/or alcohol for the last three years. Before such divine intervention and multiple "momentary lapse of reasons", my thirty year battle with alcohol and drug addiction is nothing short of one hell of a journey to break free from the bondage and slavery which my addiction created in my life. The trials, tribulations, hardships and obstacles I faced and overcame during active addiction shaped and molded me into a much greater version of the young man who swore to never go down the road which I had seen so many suffer before. The moment I walked down that path and thirty year journey I could not even begin to explain all that I have lost, gained, built burned and broke down to reach the place I exist today. The chaotic transformative method of which I used to ascend by means of drugs and alcohol one day stopped abruptly as if I was no longer in need of such great lessons of life. I needed something more from life, something more natural and beautiful, full of freedom and peace. I found which I speak of in Recovery. You see Recovery to me means striving towards and reaching a higher state of being through the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of life. I became unable to achieve such positive results of increasing those aspects with drugs and alcohol in my system any longer almost as if I have outgrown the power they once had on me and my life. When I say I do not regret any of it, I simply do not! I eventually realized that in order for me to be the best version of myself and truly be the man I was created to be, not only for myself, but for my family, friends and the community as a whole. I had to finally break free from the chains which bound me. I am grateful for the path I ventured upon for many reasons as my experiences, lessons and hardships overcome are valuable tools of inspiration for the next person who chooses to walk in the light of recovery. Today I get to be part of something greater than myself (I know, I had a hard time at first admitting there was anything greater than that...haha). Seriously though, I get be a Peer Recovery Coach for Advocates for Recovery Colorado. Providing free peer recovery services with a group of great people who share similar experiences and life lessons they have gained along their journey towards recovery. People who want to help those seeking recovery find that path which can help enable them to be the best they can be. What a gift and I blessing I think to myself everyday I get to actively produce and progress those aspects of my life I hold sacred to my heart and soul. I have passion today towards long-term recovery for me and those around me. I live a well-balanced and hopefully long life full of healthy and loving relationships. I get to hopefully be a positive role-model and voice for the recovery world today...for the people of this world. Today my recovery exists within the light of the world where I focus on the positive side of life. It is here I find the faith, hope and love within the human race, society and the world in it's pure and natural form.
Love and Light,
Adam
