Laura Rich

Peer Recovery Coach

My name is Laura. I am a person in active and sustained recovery since March 2023. I am a Peer Recovery Coach with Advocate’s for Recovery Colorado in the Denver Metro office. My background lies in nursing and healthcare. When my addiction snuck in and took over my life, I was lost and alone and felt like I had fallen between the cracks with nowhere to turn. I felt immense shame and was beyond afraid of the repercussions of admitting I had a problem and asking for help. I tried over and over on my own, however, I lacked the support and foundation I needed to be able to cope and lead a balanced and fulfilling life without drugs and alcohol. I found support and a life in recovery as I began to develop connections with others, maintain boundaries, and prioritize self-care. Stigma is still unfortunately alive and well in the world, however, connecting with others and being vocal about my recovery has helped me to become a new and improved version of myself. Any day in my recovery, no matter the challenges I may face, is infinitely better than any day in my previous life in active addiction.

There is no “one size fits all” to recovery. Your recovery can be whatever you want to make. Every person’s story is different and therefore, every person’s recovery journey will be just as unique.

Hobbies: Cooking and baking (I recently discovered how to make some killer sourdough). I enjoy exercise and fitness classes like Cycling and Pilates. I also find it’s great for helping balance the consequences of my love for the first hobby. I also love reading, painting, and spending time outdoors. I’m looking forward to spending more time in the mountains this summer.

Current Life Goals: Learn how to plant my first vegetable garden (and actually get it to grow) and get a new puppy!
