I’m a felon, I’m transgender, I’m in active and sustained recovery, and I have a voice!! Today I shared my voice and I voted!

The Halloween Party that All the way well, Elevate Recovery Homes, empower and I Am Recovery put on tonight at Free Recovery Community was amazing!!! The place was packed and so many wonderful costumes! Such a great time!

Got to hang out, enjoy the beautiful weather and carve some pumpkins with some amazing friends in wash park today. Everything was so beautiful, everything except the Honey bucket. (Brings back memories)

Who says you can’t do pull-ups wearing a skirt and heels?

I am so blessed to be part of such an amazing community. Thank you to COPA - The Colorado Providers Association for all that you do, for putting on such a beautiful event tonight and for recognizing all of these incredible people who are giving their all every single day to help others. And congratulations to my friend and co-worker Sean Gartell for walking away with an award. (Little known fact, Sean is the person who believed in me before anyone else did, got me connected with a job in the treatment industry years ago and look at me now!! Thank you Sean, you deserve this and I am so proud of you!) basically it’s Sean’s fault Vanessa is running wild in the community, he’s to blame!!!!

I had the most fantastic day hanging out with an amazing and beautiful friend. Thank you Roxie Anderson for putting up with the wig mishaps, listening to me blab while inhaling an entire key lime pie, screeching every time a dog in a costume walked by, and for sharing a beautiful day together.

Vanessa grew up nestled deep in the Ozark mountains in the bustling community known as Branson Missouri where the music bug took its course at an early age. Vanessa (she/they) proudly identifies as being a transgender female musician in long term and sustained recovery. On the professional side you will find Vanessa emersed deep into the recovery community working for the nonprofit organization, Advocates for Recovery Colorado, as the Director of Community Connections and holding a position on the board of directors for Colorado Artists in Recovery.

On the personal side she is an active member in the Recovery Dharma community, loves being outdoors, has never met a donut she didn't like, and spends every spare moment spreading smiles, giving hugs, listening to 90’s hip hop and riding her Harley Davidson fast and LOUD!
